Author, drummer, and former police chief Rick Porrello has a knack for writing books that attract interest from filmmakers. Hollywood snapped up “To Kill the Irishman,” The War that Crippled the Mafia, before it was even published, and turned it into the movie “Kill the Irishman”, starring Ray Stevenson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Christopher Walken, and Val Kilmer (Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-RcDFu-LlE). A motion picture based on his book “Superthief”, A Master Burglar, The Mafia, and The Biggest Bank Burglary in U.S. History, is currently in development. Both books have also generated documentaries.

Mind Vault first met Author and Screenwriter Rick Porrello while serving a municipal client for which Rick also served as Chief of Police for 10 years. Upon his retirement from Police work, which spanned a 33-year career in Greater Cleveland, Rick decided it was time to focus on one of his other passions full time; authoring, writing, consulting and producing.

Shortly after making this pivotal decision and finalizing his transition from Police work I remember receiving a message on Facebook. It was Rick. Not Chief Porrello, mind you, which is the only person that I’ve known for the last 10 years (I still call him Chief in my head) but … Rick. It took my eyes time to understand what they were seeing. Once adjusted however I remember telling this brand new person that I had just met what an honor it would be to work with him.

You think you know someone. Until you’re tasked with managing their marketing. I knew of Rick’s history as a drummer for Sammy Davis, Jr., as well as his background as a book author and crime historian, but I had no idea, until now, just how deep his passion and influence ran. As a young boy of Italian-American descent myself I too grew up watching mob movies of all kinds, but I never really understood the fabric of this genre until now. And for that I would very much like to thank Rick Porrello.

I would also like to thank Rick for allowing us to post this testimonial, along with all of the design work that we went through to arrive at his new Facebook Page Design. That’s right. You get to see it all. Right from Review #1, all the way through to his finally approved, Review #10.
